Deep Rooted Tree

Sageuk, sageuk everywhere! After the first episode I know who Suyang takes after. The first episode was very fast, and it's not a rule in a period drama, usually it starts slow and needs 4-6 episodes to fully bloom. But after The Princess' Man I'm not really sure if any near historical stuff can sweep me off my feet again so ferociously. And the more I watch period dramas the more pleasure I find in the shadow politics, forcing, distorting, scheming and plotting. The impuissance of people who, faced with cruelty, can do really nothing but wait and get stronger, the smouldering revenge and consumming flames of emotions... all this moves me more than jaebol's problems, seriously. Period dramas have also one more advantage - they are huge in terms of feelings and people. There is broader spectrum of emotions and characters.
Having said that, let's look at that tree.

The Greed, The Power, The Payback

Midas was the king of Pessinus, capital of Phrygia, a region in Asia Minor. He was the adopted son of Gordias and Cybele and was well known for his pristine rose garden and love of the pleasures of life.
(...) The leader of the satyrs, entrusted with Dionysus' education, was Silenus. One day, completely in character for a satyr, Silenus became intoxicated and passed out in Midas' rose garden. The peasants found him and brought him before their king. Luckily, Midas recognized Silenus and treated him well for five days and nights. During this time, Silenus entertained Midas and his court with fantastic tales.
Dionysus came to Midas and was glad to be reunited with Silenus his surrogate father. He decided to reward Midas for his hospitality and granted him one wish. Midas wished that everything he touched be turned to gold. Dionysus warned him about the dangers of such a wish, but Midas was too distracted with the prospect of being surrounded by gold to listen. Dionysus gave him the gift. Initially, King Midas was thrilled with his new gift and turned everything he could to gold, including his beloved roses. His attitude changed, however, when he was unable to eat or drink since his food and wine were also changed to unappetizing gold. He even accidentally killed his daughter when he touched her, and this truly made him realize the depth of his mistake. Desperate, Midas pleaded to Dionysus for help. Dionysus instructed Midas to bathe in the headwaters of the Pactolus River, and the wish would be washed away. Midas went to the river, and as soon as he touched the water, the river carried away the golden touch. The gold settled in the sands of the Pactolus River and was carried downstream to Lydia, one of the richest kingdoms in the ancient world and the source of the earliest coinage. (...)

Spring Dramas

Time! Time! My Kingdom for a time! Now it's quite hectic, so I don't have much time, I even put all dramas on hold, but by the mid-March I hope I can go back to my everyday routine.

Winter-end dramas

Even though I'm pretty busy with my current time-consumming drama (Queen of Reversals), I'm looking forward to some other dramas that start in February or March. I may also check the MBC project featuring Park Yuhwan, but still, my eyes belong to his hyeong^^.
It's been a year since we first heard the news about the Kimi wa petto Korean project, and I remember I was expecting this. I loved the japanese drama from the first sight (still do, as the rest of jdramas, that is 2 more, keke), and had slight doubts that movie remake wouldn't be as good. And then we witnessed what we witnessed. We were cursed, we were screamed at, we were hated over on DA, but slowly, slowly we started to feel that our attention has been screwed all over. Yes, I used bad word. Yes, I may offended someone by using it. But there is no word describing what we felt in any human or animal languages known to the world. We felt exactly like that. I want my time I spent on watching some bad movies/dramas/interviews, I want it back!!
That's why I'm cautious now.
But, back to the topic, I'm waiting for few dramas now.
1. New Tales of Gisaeng
2. Midas
3. City Hunter
4. Paradise Ranch
5. The Duo

2010 KBS Drama Awards

I want to thank my sister who wrote me everything but the right list, and I was depressed SKKS won nothing. In fact, this drama won 5 awards. But I appreciate the effort, have no idea where she went to get me some info on it. Sweet^^
And I want to add here (cause D-A may turn into hell) that, in my opinion, Yu Ah-in didn't deserve the award for the newcomer. I love the boy, but he didn't.
I will wait for the next role of one nice gentleman, named Park Yucheon. Prove yourself, boy.

2010 10Asia's Awards: SKKS and Chuno

Remember the table I had so much troubles to fit all letters there?
No? That's ok.
And because I love 10Asia, an article from their website.
Articles on: drama, director, actor, writer and "Thank You" list. There was also "No, Thank You" list, but I don't see it somehow, keke...

Chuno - the best drama of 2010

Weeeell... let me get things straight: no. I mean, it is a great drama, I didn't have any nails back then, I watched it 3 times... OK, maybe it is. But there were some things that bugged me back then and I can't still get over them. Like Lee Dahae. I don't like her. I don't find her stunningly pretty even. He's a doll. Moving, talking doll. I didn't connect to her. And, as you probably know, when there is no click between me and the character, there is no spark.
I found an article on Daum (from December 15, heh).

Press Conference Fashion

I'm in a bitchy mood today, so I decided to relax myself a bit by writing here. There are days like this, not particular bad as for weather, but somehow, in the course of hours my mood can plummet faster than a shooting star. It just happens, have no idea why, and nothing can cheer me. And because I have refrained from commenting on leopard print on jackets, I tried to get rid of the images that Aility gave me and they caused me nauseous ever since that day. But, I guess unless I speak about it, I will not get my peace back. And I need it to finish few articles. My personal, subjective, biased opinion, you don't need to give a damn on this one.
I can handle the weird fashion, really. I've never had any problems watching this. On the catwalk. Or in the movies. Really, after seeing Velvet Goldmine and Terry Gilliam stuff nothing can surprise me. I understand wacky outfits for some photoshoots. Why? Because they are part of the concept for it. The person who is responsible for a photoshoot talks with the stylist and they come up with the right image. A model or actor who models for it has little to say. He lends his personality, body and face to it and nothing more. So I don't care for that. I couldn't be more indifferent to it.
But when the actor is caught while attending some event, like movie premiere (not his/her, just a visitor in the theatre), dressed in some strange combinations even Stevie Wonder wouldn't choose, there is this alarm that goes off deep in my head. (btw. I love Stevie Wonder, jokes aside).

Omo, Omo, Omoooo!!

Ha Jeongwu and Jang Hyeok in one movie. One of the best actors and one of the best bodies... Well, no, I'm unfair, JH is also a good actor, Ok^^... Ah, let me fangirl for a moment... So, you're forgiven for dropping out of the Secret Garden, although my heart aches still that I will not see you along Yun Sanghyeon... Shiiit, that reminds me of Sanghyeon's hair, brrr... change it, change it please.
The movie, tentatively titled as The Client, will be directed by Son Youngseong. Apart from Mr. Ha and Mr. Jang (the right Jang, not to confuse it with The Peach^^) in the movie stars also Park Heesun.

Drama Fall Shines in Rainbow Colors

Jang Hyuk dropped out of Secret Garden.
And here my anticipation ends. I really wanted to see him in it. But since I found the plot somewhat not alluring at all, maybe it's for the better? But Jang Hyuk, don't let me wait too long!
So I need to make another list, and it seems like during my absence, some life-altering drama has been decided.
What stays:
Daemul (The Substitute) with Ko Hyeon Jeong, maybe because of the plot, maybe because of the leading lady. After seeing her as Mishil, I'm sure she can pull off everything.
Chosun Police 3: because it's a bit period. Plus I really need to shake off Jeong Ho Bin as Munno and see him in another role (I hate, hate, hate Munno!!). First season was the best cause it had Ryu Seung Ryong^^
My Happy Home: Because of Kim Hye Su.
Freedom Fighter, Lee Hoe Young: because I like history, especially fighting for freedom. This drama starts today, has 4 episodes in total.
Athena: Goddess of War: because there is no Lee Byeong Heon in it. This is sufficient.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, two dramas I'm dying to see:
Mischievous Kiss: because I want to teach my furniture some tricks, and maybe when they see another wooden table "acting", they will pick up some? I will not stop mocking Kim Hyeon Jeong, I will not, I say my undying pledge, on my dead cat's honor, on blood of my heart, on mountains of this world, on oceans depths, that may claim me if I do!
Mary Stayed Out All Night: because it is another idol drama, another stupid, shallow plot, hollow characters, and tons of gyuliner in use. We will get a rock-star (we had a pop-star) that is murky, oops, I meant to write mysterious, saturnine, obscure persona (probably guy, but I guess the subplot will be on his attempt in a sex-change). Damn, I'm so waiting for this. Jang Keunsuk in the main role (probably, nothing's too sure yet, but the plot must appeal to him). Ah, ah, a water for my mill... uhuhu!!

Jang Hyuk

Because my every love (there is no such thing as one love, OK, maybe my One True Love would be JJY, but the rest is close) is entitled to have his own post.
Jang Hyuk, ever since Windstruck and Thank You. Then, suddenly, with January Chuno came along, and swept me down. Crushed me. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't focus, so even with my not-on-the-desired-level of Korean I was watching every episode, patiently waiting for the next episode. Two months' break since it ended, and I'm on the rollercoaster again. I'm watching it again. I'm crying again, yelling again, cursing, biting my nails, drooling, loving and hating. Whirlpool of emotions.
Yup, some things in this drama irritate me as hell, but the one, dark presence of Lee Dae Gil makes up everything.

Flood, foxes and Chuno

Yes, apparently those three words have nothing in common. But they do. I mentioned it's been raining, right? Update on this topic: actually I'm thinking of building my own arc. We have flood in the place I live. Classes cancelled, bridges closed, streets under water. And the rain - still coming from the lead-grey sky. With this kind of weather outside I managed to end an article on kitsune, japanese fox. Also, I started to watch (again) Chuno. To be honest, the first time I watched, I was just under such impression I couldn't collect my thoughts properly. But drama ended at the end of March, so after a month break, I decided to watch it properly. Not drooling over Jang Hyuk, no no... OK, maybe a little. But who would not? I mean... his smirk, yes his smirk and voice... Aishh, it started again.
OK, forgive me all OJH fans, but I don't like Tae Ha. Really. I don't.
