2011 Dramas

Not that last year was prolific with outstanding dramas. Bad thing - it wasn't. I dropped more dramas than in previous years combined. Those years past I finished almost all dramas I started, but with Secret Garden last year I had an epiphany. I realized I have no obligation whatsoever to finish the drama I have no feel for, or I didn't "click" with it.
And I have problem with classifying *fangirl alert* What's Up! or Padam Padam. Fact, those both started last year, but I prefer to treat them as 2012 dramas. Why? Because 2011 was a crappy year for me.
Yeah, maybe biased list, maybe no one agrees with me (but I won't cry in the corner as 'certain someone The Diva'), yet I don't impose my opinion, so feel free to disagree.
I respect my dearest readers opinions and taste as well.
As long as they won't steal one of my 82673512365 loves.

Supernatural in Kdrama

What is the first thing on our mind when we hear “supernatural”? Wizards? Magical powers? None of them belong, in fact, to the world of “supernatural” or “overnatural” as I prefer to call it. The difference is huge. “Supernatural” depicts some extra amount added to the existing “natural” base (as in super-computer, it’s still computer nonetheless), but “overnatural” is some kind of transgression. It stays with a distance from the natural, and it may or may not have few common places. As you know (or not) I deal with such things on my daily research basis (have two spare spectres in the closet, want one?), and I don’t jump into the groundbreaking conclusion after seeing trailer to one movie. That would be as wise as judge Kdramaland after seeing only one episode of some drama. I read hundreds of sources, to tell the truth.
This is not thought as the article delving into archetypes of such occurrences. More likely I’d like to present some types of characters and happenings that take place in obscurity where the sunshine of usual Kdrama fluff is unable to reach.

Seoul Drama Awards - OST Awards

From June 29th to July 20th, the Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee (SDAOC) will be open to vote for the most popular drama OST of the dramas between April 1st and April 30th. Bad news is - you need to have an account on cyworld, or I didn't quite figure out how to cheat.
And my usual rant - someplace I saw they nominated IU? Well, who da hell is IU when Queen Seondeok OST had Hong Kwangho??
Also, there are 40 nominees, so forgive me I didn't romanized them all here. I'm lazy, yes.
Update: in my last comment I romanized all the remaining dramas.

7 weeks

"I think," Tehanu said in her soft, strange voice, "that I when I die, I can breathe back the breath that made me live. I can give back to the world all that I didn't do. All that I might have been and couldn't be. All the choices I didn't make. All the things I lost and spent and wasted. I can give them back to the world. To the lives that haven't been lived yet. That will be my gift back to the world that gave me the life I did live, the love I lived, the breath I breathed." (Ursula K. Le Guin, The Other Wind)

How much any person is able to do in 7 weeks? To see the results of the exercising, one needs at least 8 weeks. Oh yes, a spring onion will be edible by that time, and some radish as well. One can dye the hair again in this time twice. Apart from that? No possibility of learning language (no, my dear, being able to say “I wuv you! Marry me XX  sshi!! is not a language ability), no possibility of building a house. No saving the world from war and poverty. No cure for Alzheimer.
7 weeks is really not that much.
So imagine you are given 7 weeks of life. What would you do? Rob a bakery and steal all meringues… no, wait, go on some rampage and make all those who bullied you in school pay for this? Have tons of uncontrollable sex with anyone and anywhere? How about preparing everyone for your leave? You expect everyone to shed hectoliters of tears and wailing in pain. But guess what? What if some people just want you dead?

49 Days: embarkment

Finally, after two first episodes. There is a lot I'd like to say about this drama that started, in my opinion, well. Two first episodes lay an outline for the rest of the series, but I believe screenplay will mess up the existence of the characters even more. I didn't write "lives", but "existence" on purpose. The main character is a wandering soul. So the word "life" is inappropriate.

49 Days: 24 Hours

I was anticipating Bad Guy also... I hope they don't mess things up.
And just funny trivia. I read today about the trench our dear Reaper/Angel of Death/whatever was wearing on the set. It was electric blue in color. The stylists for the drama explained that every time this grim person is clad in ash-colored, black, grey clothes, so they wanted to break the stereotype. He also plays guitar and I'm not kidding here. He looks as if he was chosen to do this against his own will. Or something else - maybe he started to grow the conscience of his job? Mulla...
Plus, hell, he's skinny...

49 Days: press conference

Ah, what the hell, some pics. Just one thought - who let Bae Subin enter in such pants?? It's a crime against  male humanity!

49 Days: official release

SBS launched the website and of course released lots of stills.
That's good for me and those who are waiting for this drama. The word "possess" for me is like catnip for a cat. What can I do?
Plus, I can't refuse Jeong Ilwu, I like the boy.

49 Days: new stills

The filter looks gloomy and nice. The premise is good. Oh man, 2 more weeks for the first episode. Hope it won't disappoint.

49 Days

I really have no idea why I'm so hyped up about this drama, but the word "possess" must lured me in. I do hope they won't mess things up and the drama will live up to its premises.
Details:
Korean title: 49일
Broadcast: SBS
Episodes: TBA
Starts: 2011-Mar-16
Time: Wednesday - Thursday
Time - 21시 55분
Cast:  Lee Yo Won, Bae Soo Bin, Jo Hyun Jae, Jung Il Woo, Choi Jung Won, Nam Gyu Ri
Plot (after Hancinema):
49 Days is about a fantasy where the lead character falls into a coma from an accident with days before her wedding and finds out she can live with tears from three people who truly love her besides her family. Lee Yo-won (Song Ee-kyeong) gets possessed by Nam Gyoo-ri's (Sin Ji-hyeon) soul. Jeong Il-woo will be playing pretty boy scheduler Song Ee-soo whose job is to send souls into the other world according to their death dates (I read he will play a Reaper, but it's probably the same thing).

Yes, me and SBS. I think majority of dramas I watched was produced by SBS, and KBS is just second. This is why there are some bad thoughts in the back of my head.
But eh, well...

Spring Dramas

Time! Time! My Kingdom for a time! Now it's quite hectic, so I don't have much time, I even put all dramas on hold, but by the mid-March I hope I can go back to my everyday routine.
