Throwback Thursday Part 21

Books and lilacs. Two lovely things. Also Lilac Wine by Jeff Buckley.

Since today is World Book Day, Throwback Thursday is to the book inspirations in music. When I was drawing up a list, I came up with over 70 songs that had any references to books, so I had to cut the list short.
And no, no Iron Maiden here, because they made references to every most of the classic books.
I was trying to find anything based on the Faust, but except for Muse and one song I couldn't remember the artist of, I had to give up.

Throwback Thursday Ep 09

Throwback to sadness, because September is sadness. No REM< no Tears in Heaven though. And no, no Hallelujah. This was actually a very hard list for me, because I'm musically irrevocably damaged and I love sad songs. I even have a playlist called "Weltschmerz", for Autumnal rain's sake! And sometimes a song is not even sad, but it exudes sadness. Like Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence. Or maybe it is a sad song, but more than that, it paints a bleak, dystopian vision. So I had to chose.
Prepare tissues.

Hong Kwangho - Update

I bet this gentleman wrote my name in his notebook, cause with each performance I die a little bit. I've wanted to post a video or two for months, but had no time or just other stuff accumulated and I couldn't manage to write one, short post. I'm a disgrace of a fan, I know. But... it's so great to see new channels popping up on YT rotating solely around this wonderful man (like recent star star). The hunt for his performances has become a lot easier than before. Also, Korean musicals are being released as albums with songs and that is also a thing to rejoice upon. He also released a live album with his songs from a concert. However the possibility to actually buy them is another story...

An Award for Hong Kwangho

I'm reporting the news on the best musical actor of our times. "Miss Saigon" was also awarded as the Best West End show and Best Revival of a Musical.
Video below.

Miss Saigon trailer

There are no words that could express what I feel right now. Powerful, soul-tearing, scarring...
Looks like my Mr. Hong Kwangho took a great opportunity to shine.
I thought I could watch it, but my UK trip next week somehow put all kinds of obstacles to it. I can hope for DVD out of it, right?

Hong Kwangho news

I admit, Miss Saigon is not my favorite musical. Or was. Now it is!
Following people who don't tweet for half a year was a good choice afterall.

Music Once Again

Goddamit, the OST for Thor 2 is so so booooring! But Brian Tyler was never my favorite score composer anyway, so it's not like I'm disappointed or anything.
And you know, when even Ryan Gosling scolds you for not writing more often, it means something's not right. Ekhem, back to music and NO Jjong today. Let's commemorate this with one minute of silence.

Hong Kwangho in July

It's already 30+ degrees here, yet it's steaming in my room already...
I know I make no sense.

“The Musical Actor In My Heart Is?”

From left: Junsu, Hong Kwangho, Ock Ju Hyun, Uhm Ki Jun and Park Euntae

I didn't know about this voting. Had I known, I'd have contributed with my little vote for one and only Mr. Hong. I love Junsu, I really do, but frankly speaking, he's behind Hong Kwangho.
He's less scary too.

So, people, What's Up!

OK, after few busy days, hectic days ahead. I moved out (old flat owners being jerks, but it's normal here), and since I have warm (WARM!!) room, I restarted watching dramas. Two, actually. The Cutie Vampire Prosecutor and What's Up!. Since I rambled few times about how awesome vampire... I mean the show, show is, now I will spazz how awesome What's Up! drama is.
Basically - this drama can be enjoyed even by those who are not into Kdrama. Why? It's about music, and believe me, music knows no boundaries, no language barriers etc.
It's universal in it's portrayal of musicals.

Ju Jihun (and Hong Kwangho)

Sorry, had double eyegasm, and have absolutely nothing of any sense to write. "...you've been double cast with Hong Gwang-ho this time, who nobody could win in terms of singing."

And this is how sanity leaves me, leeeaaaveees meeeee!! Nanana...

Singing men

If anyone is curious why I never mentioned dancing men - well, I did that out of protection of my own sanity. As almost every girl, I'm vulnerable to singing men, but dancing men have something in them that makes me... oh noez, kids may also stumble upon this post...
Anyway, today two of them, Hong Kwangho, who could sing the mackerel recipe and I would die from fangasm, and Ju Jihun, who could... ah, nevermind, it's still early.
In case you are interested in Korean musicals (as the humble jelly writing this), you may want to check this website: http://ticket.interpark.com/MusicalIndex.asp. It's basically ticket website, but it does have some nice features around.

Open Music - Hong Kwangho

I'm elated. I'm almost dead with some strange happiness. I was watching the show completely unprepared, so when one lady said that the next performer would be Hong Kwango with this song, I stopped doing whatever I was doing (sudden amnesia, don't remember). This man could sing the microwave instruction and I would explode. He sings here "This Is The Moment" from the musical Jekyll & Hyde. And if I may be frank, Jo Seungwu, even though I like him and he has fabulous voice, may hold a sheet with notes to this man. Too bad, Seungwu is more recognizable and gets more attention.
Eh..
Still can't understand what CNBlue were doing there...

Hong Kwangho - Singing Insanity

I almost drooled all over my keyboard. The only existing reason I didn't do that is my consciousness. I have a laptop, so pouring my saliva all over it would only destroy what I fight for... eemm, wrong quote. I gathered some videos, 11 to be exact, found in different places. Some are from different renditions, that is why the double titles. Or just the video/audio recording is better. Obsessed hoomin is not sad over too much of the videos, you know...
(Edit: somehow I can't embed more than 4 here, dammit!!).
And, what's even more important, I found the OST for Phantom of The Opera. It's amazing to actually make the audience like you even though you play the ultimate bastard. The movie from 2004 with Gerard Sparta Butler ruined all the magic this story had for me. I liked the sombre aura that clogged everyone in it. Movie was just a Hollywood story, without any other sublime allusions. Well, hell, there was a rape, anger, betrayal, vengeance. They made it into a love story...
When my internet stops from being such a crappy mess? SKKS is not here yet! Damn...
And yes, I drooled because of this man. He can look deadly handsome, creepy, ugly, freaking me out, but there is one trait that overshadows everything - enormous talent and stage presence.

Music again

Buhwal. The name is an institution itself now. Formed in 1985 the group changed vocalists so many times, and perhaps the most famous out of them is Lee Seung Cheol.
Kim Tae-Won (guitar), Jung Dong-Ha (vocals), Um Soo-Han (keyboards), Seo Jae-Hyeok (bass), Chae Je-Min (drums).
Former vocalists:
Kim Jong-Seo (vocals, 1985), Lee Seung-Chul (vocals, 1985-88, 2002-03), Kim Jae-Ki (vocals, 1993-95), Kim Jae-Hee (vocals, 1995-97), Park Wan-Gyu (vocals, 1997-99).
Despite the fact that new one, Jung Dongha sings a bit in Japanese "singers" way, I can give it a go because he has a good voice. And is nice^^...
They were guests in the latest Kim Jeong-eun's Chocolate. First thing, I like this actress, second, this is a very good, yet low profile show. Not with that much hype as Music Bank, Music Core or Inkigayo, but still good. The other one that is as good as this and sometimes maybe better is Yun Dohyeon's Love Letter. Damn, I love YD's voice, and the band, so naturally I follow.
But this is not the only think I'd like to present, because I got more videos I managed to dug out. Haha! Mr. Hong Kwangho on The Musical Awards, June 7, 2010!! Fangirl time!

Yesss... more live music

Since I'm on my daily dosage of some nice, powerful performances, and I managed to track down which TV  station actually broadcasted the musicals, I am so heppey! Less heppey knowing that one of those is SBS. Here I come!
After seeing new FT.Island MV, the manly looking, manly singing men are like a heavensent. I like Hongki, but his hair in the Love Love Love video... well... just awful. Am I the only one who thinks like that? I guess, for the girls who call him oppa, it's cool to look like Angelina Jolie in Changeling. There is just this minor problem that oppa-girls tend to overlook. Miss Jolie (damn, another YAB reference, I am so clever! {Keunsuk style} chuckling) is a woman. A woman! Hongki is not. As far as I am informed, but still, 8 hours of the time difference, so everything can happen. Still, he's cute. Cuuute^^
Anyway, back to less cute but more talented men. For now, one man.
Tomorrow, if the schedule permits, I will present another singing man, the one I was pointed to on D-A by Peggy. Somehow I didn't realise I knew so many of his songs, but his husky, sandy, sometimes even hoarse voice lingered somehow at the back of my head. The Devil OST, No Regret OST, aww...
